Tanner Products

Taking corpses to the tanners is one of the more interesting
diversions in the game.  Any critter's corpse will yield
something, usually an item of apparel, sometimes valuable
apparel.  This aspect of the game has been underutilized for a
while, but may be making a comeback. [Yeah!]

What follows is a reasonably comprehensive list of tanner's products for
the Basic Game.  The author, Fr. Dudley, offers this as a supplement to
his Player's Guide to the Basic Game--IOKGUIDE.ZIP.

Scales

	Ice Dragon	 -- vest of milky, white scales of ice
                            dragon; the best armor in BG, fire & ice
			    protection, good concussion protection;
      			    although rumored it offers no lightning 
			    resistance.
				
	Drake		 -- vest of silvery scales of drake; second
			    best armor in BG.

	Dragon		 -- vest of dragon scales; third best armor,
			    some fire & ice, some concussion
			    protection.

	Sandserpent     -- vest of rainbow colored scales, value
			   unknown.

	Crocodile	-- vest of crocodile scales, value unknown.

	Wyvern		 -- vest of wyvern scales, value unknown.

	Lizard		 -- vest of lizard scales, ice protection.

	Salamander	 -- vest of salamander scales, fire
			    protection.

	Snake		 -- sparkling scales of snake, total poison
			    protection.

Furs

	Whitey the Bear -- coat of huge white bear; excellent
			   fire & ice protection.

	Smokey the Bear -- coat of grizzled bear; fire & ice
			   protection.

	Plain Bear	-- coat of huge, single bear; ice
			   protection.

	Manticora	-- long coat of manticora fur; poison
			   protection?

	Plain Tiger	-- tiger skin coat, value unknown.

	Leng Tiger	-- unknown.

	Hyena		-- unknown.

	Wolf		-- jacket of wolf fur, ice protection.

	Dog		-- [The author found it.] jacket of dog fur.

Leathers

	Troll		 -- stone colored leather vest, better than
			    chain, different from but about equivalent
			    to plate.

	Trog		-- weird; it shows as fur but is stone
			   colored leather on examination.  Might
 			   work as armor for MAs.

	Scorpion	-- disappointing; shows as plate when
			   fighting one, but is strange leather coat at
			   tanner.

	Shark		-- unknown.

     Kobolds, orcs, goblins, hobgoblins, gargoyles,
     minotaurs, ogres, and berserkers all yield a coat of
     strange leather.  The coat is equivalent in all ways to
     leather armor, but may offer minimal ice protection.

Other Tanner Products

	Griffin		-- down vest; good ice protection and
			   total blindness protection.

	Raven		-- single black feather, value unknown.

	Boar		-- football, identifies as weapon.
